TRANSFORMING MIDDLE MANAGERS INTO CONFIDENT COMMUNICATORS AND LEADERS

Leading Messy Teams Forward

Leading Messy Teams Forward | Amy Jackson - Nurturing Confidence
Some leaders walk into a new role to discover quite the chaos legacy left behind!

I love working with leaders in these scenarios - they’re often ready to jump into new ways of working, determined to help their team get past the unhappiness of a team in conflict, the lethargy of feeling undervalued and the frustration of feeling like the work is stuck!

It can be especially challenging to navigate this on your own, which is why Team Coaching can really help. I work with the Leader to understand what is going on through a series of confidential conversations with all the stakeholders. Together we then co-create a pathway forward for the team. This usually involves a combination of

  • 1:1 coaching for the leader themselves to help skill them up to lead their team through this, and
  • a series of workshop style, team coaching sessions, where we work with the team in a co-creative process to unravel and reinvent how we will work together.

Often the leaders will have already done some team building work with the team, and they then work with me to dive into the really difficult challenges of the way the team works together.
Like individual leadership coaching, this is not about finding the right model or theory that will fix the problem, so much as equipping the team to improve the way they work interdependently through actively practising different tools and techniques for working together in the workshops.

In some scenarios, additional 1:1 coaching may help specific members of the team, (or all of them if our Leader is leading a team of leaders!), as well as consistent and persistent 1:1 work between the leader and individual team members.

Working together over 3-6 months what we see are:

  • significant shifts in team cultures
  • real shifts in the quality of team performance and
  • Leaders who are both proud of their new team and feeling more confident and equipped next time they find themselves with a messy new team!
If you’ve got a team or a Leader in mind who might be at just the right point for a Team Coaching approach, please do reach out so we can explore together how I might be able to help.
